A couple of things…

In high school, once the school year ended, I would not see my teachers until the next school year began. I spent countless hours during the summer at my high school for baseball practices and games, as well as band rehearsals and Student Council meetings, but I would never see teachers that weren’t affiliated with my extracurricular activities.

In the past seven days, I’ve seen just about every professor I’ve had this year and President Roush even waved to me as I was on my way to the fitness center Wednesday. I’ve also ran into faculty and staff off campus, and it’s nice to recognize people from Centre even when I’m not in class.

My point is, although there are not as many bodies on campus during the summer, Centre is in no way deserted just because school is not in session…

That being said, I had no clue how big the Great American Brass Band Festival was until yesterday. I had heard about how much fun this weekend would be, but it didn’t register until I woke up on Saturday morning around 8 o’ clock and there were people lined up outside Pearl Hall waiting for the parade to begin at 11:00. Last night, around 1am, there had to be atleast 30 folks just hanging out in front of Pearl Hall.

Who said there was nothing going on in Danville during the summer?…

For some time now, I’ve been dreading grocery shopping by myself. This summer, I am staying on campus to work at the Grounds Shop and I will have to figure out how to feed myself without the aid of Cowan.
Should be interesting…

The perfect stress reliever after a long school year? Rollercoasters.

I think it’s fitting that moving day was a gloomy one.

Last day of the school year.

Last day of the school year.

One of the last performances I attended this school year was the Centre Dance Concert. It featured acts from many different genres and was actually pretty neat. These are shots of the last act.

Congrats to Sam on being named 2011’s valedictorian!

Nice!!

Nice!!

And just like that…

It’s over! One of my friends emailed me Tuesday night and said, “Stay strong during finals. 60 hours and you’re out of here.” That advice (along with a lot of prayer) got me through my exams. The entire school year came down to the last two days and I am delighted to say that I feel accomplished. As a sports enthusiast, I try to attack life just as an athlete would attack a game or match. So I prepared myself and did what I could to ensure success. I tried to balance hardwork with equal amounts of stress relievers and I think it all paid off. After each exam, I felt like a winner (or — for you Miami fans — like LeBron felt Wednesday night).

Realizing that my first year of college is in the books, I feel even more so. I can’t imagine how quickly time has flown by, but when I look back on the past 10 months, I can’t imagine any better place to be.

People always ask me why I chose Centre and, honestly, I think Centre chose me. I knew what I wanted to do with my life, but I didn’t exactly know where I wanted to go to do it. When I got my acceptance letter from Centre and began to learn more about the school, I didn’t really see any other option. There were difficulties in my household regarding my decision, but I, in short order, had to realize that Centre was where I needed to be. I never visited, but when I compared what Centre offered to the other offers I received, there was only one choice. I just knew.

Finals time is a time to show what we do best academically.

I think it’s time we define something else Centre students do best: “Cowan sitting” & “library leaving.”

Cowan sitting happens when a group of friends go to dinner in Cowan, lose track of time, and end up staying way too long. Library leaving is when a student intentionally leaves a backpack, notebook, or article of clothing in the library so that said student will have a reason to go back to the library.

Usually, library leaving happens as a way of preventing Cowan sitting.

I’m bugging out.

The next 3 days are not gonna be fun. I have all of my exams within 24 hours of each other and I feel lost. I usually don’t trip about test taking, but the stress level of those around me (coupled with the excitement of my first year of college coming to a close) is making me nauseous. I mean seriously nauseous.

I know what I should know, but what if I forget that I know it when I know that it counts?
